“북한의 핵실험에 대한 입장”

북한의 핵실험은 한반도를 비롯한 세계 평화를 위협하고 그리고 북한은 물론 남한과 아시아에 재난을 가져올 수도 있는 매우 어리석고 무모하고 위태롭고 불행한 일이다. 이와 같은 무모한 행동의 책임은 전적으로 북한에 있지만, 미국 일본 등이 북한에 대해서 강경 압박 정책을 쓴데도 부분적인 책임은 있다고 생각한다. 그리고 이를 빌미로 일본 등의 주변국들이 핵무장을 하려는 시도를 한다면 이는 아시아와 세계 평화를 위협하는 또 하나의 불행을 초래하게 될 것이다. 이번 불행한 사태로 세계는 성급하게 북한에 대한 군사적 제재 등 압박만 가할 것이 아니라 단호하면서도 유연한 대화와 설득의 방법을 구사하므로 북한을 평화와 공존의 마당으로 끌고 나오도록 최선을 다해야 할 것이다.
그리고 한국 교회는 이번 불행한 정치 군사적 사태에 대해 지나치게 민감하고 성급한 ‘정치적’ 반응을 나타내 보이기보다는, 역사를 주관하시는 하나님 앞에 조용히 나아가 우리 자신의 죄를 살피고 하나님의 긍휼을 간구하면서 그분의 음성에 귀를 기울이려는 하박국 선지자와 같은 ‘신앙적’ 자세를 취하는 것이 필요하다고 생각한다. “그가 내게 무엇이라 말씀하실는지 기다리고 바라보며 나의 질문에 대하여 어떻게 대답하실는지 보리라”(합2:1). 한국 교회가 하나되어 하나님의 얼굴을 구한다면 하나님께서 우리들에게 긍휼을 베푸실 것이다. 하나님 아버지 우리를 불쌍히 여기시옵소서! 진노 중에라도 긍휼을 잊지 마옵소서!

Thank you for your concern. I personally, as the chairman of KEF, issued a statement about the recent nuclear test of North Korea. The statement is as the following:
The position about the nuclear test of North Korea
The nuclear test of North Korea is a threat to the peace of the Korean peninsular as well as of the world and is a very foolish, reckless, dangerous, and unfortunate conduct which could bring disasters to North and South Koreas as well as to Asia. Though the North Korean government is mostly responsible for this reckless conduct, yet the American and Japanese governments which have taken the policy of hard pressure are partially responsible. If the neighboring countries such as Japan attempt nuclear armoring, as an excuse, it will bring another misfortune which could threaten the peace of Asia as well as of the world. The world communities should not take only the hard pressure of military repercussion but should take a firm yet flexible policy of dialogue and persuasion to bring North Korea out to the yard of peace and coexistence.
The Korean Church should not take an hasty ‘political’ reaction but rather should take the ‘prayerful’ attitude of the prophet Habakkuk to go quietly to God who governs history, examine our sins, beg God’s mercy, and try to listen to His voices. “I will look to see what he will say to me, and what answer I am to give to this complaint”(Hab. 2:1). If the Korean churches are united to seek the face of God, he will show mercy. “God, our father, be merciful upon us. In wrath remember mercy!” (Rev. Kim Myung Hyuk, Chairman of KEF)
